| KC Kelly And The Reverend Dave Present The Acoustic Revival LIVE at The Trolley Stop |
| Two years ago our buddy Marty from The Trolley Stop called us, and we began discussing what sort of deal we could put together for the Thursday night slot. Robin at The Trolley had decided to take a chance on us, and take a chance on live music (so buy that girl a drink!). Marty mentioned that maybe an acoustic night would be good, and in fact KC and The Reverend had been trying to figure out how we could get something like that going. The rest is history, and there's were you get your Acoustic Revival. See, we had the idea that there was this huge pool of talent in Dayton that simply hadn't had a place to play for awhile. We figured we might be able to do something a little different and maybe we could get enough interest to keep is afloat for a bit, and things have gone great for a long while now. Well, two and a half years and counting as of March 2004. What's The Deal? First off, you do not have to be God's gift to music or songwriting. Just be serious about trying to do the best you can and improving your craft. Second big point, there are a few hard rules and they will be followed by everyone. It's every Thursday from 8:00 until 1:30 (sometimes we start a bit later or ealier, depending on the number of Players). Sign ups are on the day of the show only, in person only, and on a first come first serve basis. Everybody gets around 15 or 20 minutes (sometimes more, sometimes less). No cutting in, no substitutions. There are a limited number of slots, and the list will be closed when we get the maximum number of Players (usually 10 to 15). The format is an acoustic guitar based singer songwriter showcase, though we welcome everyone playing anything if your heart and head are in the right place. We strongly recommend an acoustic guitar with some kind of electronic pickup. If you haven't got one, we'll let you use one of the nice ones that Centerville Music graciously provides. There is no reverb, echo, or any of that fancy stuff, unless you want to bring it and only then if it's easy to hook up. The point is to sort of hang it out there and keep it simple and raw. If you want to haul out some stuff that's simple to use and easy to hook up we'll see. Oh, and there are NO SPEECHES ALOUD! In these political times the pompous seem to florish like mold spores. Everyone is welcome at The Acoustic Revival, and our event will not be turned into a venue to rant about the left, the right, or the middle. Say you what want IN SONG, and keep in mind that this is a friendly place. Everyone WILL be expected to keep the politics to a tiny (invisible) minimum while onstage. To the political types follow this rule; if you really think what you're going to say is cool, it's probably going to irritate or alienate someone. Which is not what we're about. Bottom line - be nice to ALL the folks at The Trolley. Once you're offstage you can grab a beer and a table and scream about that jerk (insert target here) until you bust. We try to be real flexible about things, but decisions have to be made sometimes and those decisions need to be respected. And respect MUST be shown to the people and property of The Trolley Stop at ALL TIMES, no exceptions, no kidding. Some of this may seem silly to mention, but please realize that all of the stuff up here has already happened enough that it's a become a problem at one time or another. We've got a rare thing going here, so let's all play nice folks! |
